Community Service Ride-A-Long Program
The Sutter County Sheriff’s Department offers the citizens of Sutter County a unique opportunity to observe first hand, the operation of the department. By participating in the community service ride-a-long program, citizens can ride with a deputy and get a better understanding of law enforcement. The program gives the citizen the opportunity to ask questions of the deputy and perhaps get a little insight in the job of a law enforcement professional. This also gives our deputies an opportunity to develop a relationship with the individual, thereby enhancing the departments philosophy on community policing. Participants fill out a waiver form and undergo a brief background check. The citizen is then contacted by department personnel and a schedule of when the ride will take place is determined. We are a 24-hour service facility, allowing just about everyone’s schedule to be accommodated. Individuals are allowed to ride up to two times a year with the deputies. Those interested must be at least sixteen years of age and have a parent or guardian authorize the ride. Those that choose to do so may be assigned to ride with deputies from the main office, resident beats, Live Oak, or under certain conditions with the departments boat patrol deputies.
