Inmate Death
Investigation
TEXT:
The Sutter
County Sheriff-Coroner’s Department is continuing its investigation,
pending final toxicology results, into the death of Anthony Evans
Carpio. Carpio was discovered by jail staff to be in some unknown
type of medical distress in a holding cell at yesterday afternoon.
An autopsy
conducted this morning discovered a two plastic baggies in the
stomach tract of the deceased, both of which had come open. A
preliminary chemical test of the substance remaining in the baggies
tested positive presumptive for methamphetamine. Additionally, in
interviewing fellow cell-mates, investigators learned that the
deceased allegedly told the cell-mates that he had swallowed a
quantity of methamphetamine just prior to being stopped by Yuba City
Police hours earlier.
Specific
toxicology results are expected within the next seven to ten days.
