Officer involved shooting

At approximately 1:48 am, Sutter
County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a report of shots fired in
the area of the 2300 block of Birch Street in Live Oak. The
reporting party started that he had heard approximately five shots
that he believed were fired from a handgun. No one was seen in the
area. Additional calls to dispatch indicating that more gunshots
were heard in the area. Callers were able to identify the residence
where it was believed the shots were coming from as 2322 Birch
Street, Live Oak. The Sutter County Special Enforcement Detail
(SWAT) was called out and responded to the area. The SED team set
up their perimeter and was awaiting attempts by hostage negotiators
to make telephone contact with the individual.
At approximately 3:47 am, a male
subject broke out a window to the residence from inside and began
shooting at the deputies who returned fire. The suspect was
disabled and taken into custody. Medical aid was provided and
subsequently transported to Rideout Emergency Hospital in Marysville
where he was pronounced dead on arrival. At this time the
identification of the deceased male has not been determined.
No deputies were injured during the
incident. The California Department of Justice, Bureau of Criminal
Investigation was called and agreed to conduct the criminal
investigation. A representative from the Sutter County District
Attorney’s Office is also assisting the Department of Justice Agents
with the investigation. Investigators from the Sutter County
Sheriff’s Department are conducting a separate, administrative
investigation into the shooting.
