TEXT:

On Tuesday, August 1, 2006 neighborhoods throughout Sutter County and the City of Live Oak are being invited to join forces with thousands of communities nationwide for the “23rd Annual National Night Out”  (NNO) crime and drug prevention event.  National Night Out is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW) and co-sponsored locally by the Sutter County Sheriff’s Department.  It will involve over 10,750 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases around the world.  In all, over 34.8 million people are expected to participate in ‘America’s Night Out Against crime.  NNO 2006 is being supported in part by the U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance, and the Sutter County Sheriff’s Department.  National Night Out, a year-long community building campaign is designed to:

1. Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness

2. Generate support for and participation in, local anticrime efforts

3. Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships

4. Send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

From 7 PM to 10 PM on August 1st, residents in neighborhoods throughout Sutter County and Live Oak and across the nation are asked to lock their doors, turn on outside lights, and spend the evening outside with neighbors and police.  Many neighborhoods throughout Live Oak and Sutter County will be hosting a variety of special events such as, block parties, cookouts, and visits from police, youth activities, and anticrime rallies.

Sheriff Jim Denney and his command staff, along with the Sutter County K-9 unit, Boat Patrol, Bike Patrol and Live Oak Fire Department will visit the neighborhoods participating in National Night Out.

Don’t delay!  Organizing early ensures a successful event.  If you would like to sign up your neighborhood and live in Live Oak, call Sergeant Greathouse at the substation at 695-2122. If you live in Sutter County, please contact either Sgt. Weber or Lt. Dave Samson at 822-7307.
