TEXT
The Sutter County Sheriff’s Department and Applebee’s Grill and Bar
are teaming together for the Third Annual “TIP-A-COP”
event to raise funds for Special Olympics, Northern California on
Tuesday, May 24, 2005, at Applebee’s, 1000 Tharp Road, Yuba City.
Sheriff Jim Denney will lead a team of uniformed deputies serving as
“Celebrity Waiters” during the lunch hours of 11:30 AM to 2:00 PM, and
Patrol Commander Captain J. Paul Parker will lead a second team of
deputies during the dinner hour from 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM. The Sheriff
and staff will be assisting the servers with water service, setting
and clearing tables, seating guests, etc. Customers will be asked to
support Special Olympics by placing a special “tip” in specially
marked envelopes at their tables. Last year, over $24,000 was raised
at 12 Northern California locations through TIP-A-COP events.
Special Olympics provide year-round sports training and athletic
competition in a variety of Olympic-style sports for individuals with
developmental disabilities. In Northern California, more than 14,000
persons with disabilities participate in local, area and chapter-wide
competitions and are offered at no expense to all eligible athletes.
