K-9s earn awards at Stockton K-9 Trials

The
Sutter County Sheriff’s K-9 Unit won awards at the recent Stockton
(CA) Law Enforcement K-9 Trials held this past Saturday (4-2-05). The
competition consisted of 27 K-9 teams from throughout Northern
California who were judged on their performance in agility, obedience,
search and protection scenarios.
Deputy
Mike Gwinnup and his K-9 partner “Dexter” brought home the second
place trophy in the protection competition and the fifth place overall
trophy for their performance against the other teams in all
scenarios.
Deputy Mike Slayton and his K-9 partner “Champ” received the
“Agitator’s Award” for the best performance by a K-9 in the bite phase
of the protection competition. The Agitator’s Award is voted on by
the protection scenario agitators who act as the suspects during the
competition
The Sutter County Sheriff’s K-9 Unit has been in existence for over 35
years and is one of the oldest continuous law enforcement K-9 Units in
Northern California.
