The Sutter County Sheriff-Coroner’s Office has identified the victim killed in the small airplane crash on Sunday morning (8-15-04) in southern Yuba City.

The victim is identified as Colin Mayes, age 78, of Saanichton, British Columbia, Canada.  His identity and aircraft were confirmed last night through family members in Saanichton after they were contacted by members of the Central Saanich Police Department at the request of sheriff-coroner investigators.

According to family members, Mayes was enroute Friday to the Napa Valley from his home and stopped in Port Roberts, Washington to visit his daughter.  He was last seen leaving Port Roberts on Saturday morning.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are investigating the crash of Mayes’ aircraft which is identified as a Cessna 172.  Any further information regarding the crash investigation should be directed to either the FAA or the NTSB.
