FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Friday, October 22, 2004, 9:00 am SUBJECT: Sutter County Sheriff’s Deputies Compete in Sacramento K9 Trials TEXT: Sutter County Sheriff’s Deputies Mike Slayton and Mike Gwinnup were successful in the recent 2004 Capitol K9 Challenge, held on October 16, 2004 at Crocker Park in Sacramento, CA. The competition featured 28 teams from sixteen different law enforcement agencies throughout Northern and Central California, including one team from the military. The competition included exercises in obedience, search, and protection work. Deputy Slayton and his K9 partner “Champ”, a Malinoise Dutch Shepherd, placed third in the search phase of the competition. Deputy Gwinnup and his K9 partner “Dexter”, also a Malinoise and brother to Champ, achieved an overall third place finish in the competition.
