Sheriff’s
Department and Applebee’s raise over $2,600 for Special Olympics
Text
The
Sutter County Sheriff’s Department and Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill
and Bar teamed up together yesterday in the annual “Tip-A-Cop”
fundraiser for Special Olympics. Teams of sheriff’s deputies led by
Sheriff Jim Denney and Captain J. Paul Parker worked three-hour shifts
during the lunch and dinner hours at the Yuba City restaurant serving
non-alcoholic beverages and clearing tables, collecting tips for
Special Olympics from restaurant patrons in the process. The Special
Olympics tips were in addition to the regular tips received by the
Applebee’s staff, which also supported the fundraising efforts.
The
combined tips collected for Special Olympics during the two shifts
totaled $2,647. Additional donations were still coming in today
and will be added to the event’s total accumulation.
“Many
patrons responded to Applebee’s specifically to support Special
Olympics after learning of the Tip-A-Cop event from the local media,”
said Sheriff Denney. “I was extremely pleased with the community’s
turnout and support for this worthwhile effort.”
During
last year’s event, the combined efforts of the Sutter County Sheriff’s
Department and the Yuba City Applebee’s led all other Northern
California chapters of the Special Olympics in their fundraising
efforts.
Sheriff
Denney commended the Yuba City Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill and Bar,
led by Manager Patty Avalos, for hosting the fundraising event. “I
look forward to making this annual event a continued success for
Special Olympics,” Sheriff Denney said.
