SUBJECT:

SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT K-9  “PATRICK”  PASSES AWAY

TEXT:

Sutter County Sheriff Jim Denney sadly announced today the passing away of one of their departmental German Shepherd K-9 protection dogs “Patrick”.  Patrick, who was also known as “Trick”, died unexpectedly early Tuesday morning from a yet to be determined sudden illness.  Patrick passed away at the home of his longtime K-9 handler Deputy Mike Slayton who had handled Patrick since he was a pup.  Patrick had been a full time protection K-9 for the Sutter County Sheriff’s Department since 1997.

“Patrick was a highly valued member of the Sheriff’s Department, and I am greatly saddened by his sudden passing. He will be sorely missed by the entire department” said Sheriff Denney.

Patrick was instrumental in numerous building and area searches, felony arrests, officer protection and K-9 demonstrations over his law enforcement career.  Patrick and Deputy Slayton were often called upon to give demonstrations of Patrick’s high degree of training at police dog competitions and at area elementary schools where was Patrick was a favorite among area school children.
