The Sutter County
Sheriff’s Mounted Posse is accepting new members. The Posse provides
assistance in search and rescue operations where searching on foot or
vehicle is impractical, or impossible. They also assist in the
community at many functions such as patrolling local rodeos, parades,
and providing eyes and ears for the Sheriff’s Department during the
summer months in the County Parks and bike trails. They assist in
searches within the county as requested by the Sheriff. Training
concerning the various duties they may be assigned will be provided by
the Sheriff’s Department. Members are not Law Enforcement personnel
and do not enforce laws.
The Posse members are
a volunteer group that utilizes their horses to assist the Sheriff’s
Department. The Posse has male and female members and is always
interested in recruiting new members that are willing to be pro-active
within the group.
The Posse has a
well-kept rodeo arena that is utilized by the junior organization and
other horse groups during the year. They always help the 4-H group
focusing on at-risk teens and the Yuba-Sutter junior Livestock
Auction, Future Farms of America, and at times sponsor local children
that are involved in the Junior Rodeo Circuit.
You will be required
to have available at all times, a horse trailer and a well mannered
and orderly horse; said animal shall not be less than fourteen (14)
hands, two (2) inches in height and shall be used at all functions of
