FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: February 15, 2003 SUBJECT: HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION TEXT: Sutter County Sheriff’s Department Detectives are investigating a homicide that occurred on Franklin Road east of Harding Road, Yuba City. At approximately 1201hrs this date, drive by citizens in the same vehicle observed a unknown East Indian male subject, appeared to be beating another East Indian male subject who was seated in the driver side of one of the parked vehicles. The male citizen stopped and pulled the East Indian off the seated driver and attempted to calm him down, when the other East Indian driver got out of his vehicle and shot the other East Indian at a close range. The male citizen was able to subdue the shooter as well as retrieve the weapon until the arrival of Law Enforcement personnel. The gunshot victim was transported to Rideout Hospital where he expired at 1250hrs this date. The names of the individuals are being withheld pending next of kin notification, as well as the on-going investigation. The two citizens are to be commended for their valiant efforts in assisting law enforcement during this dangerous situation. -END TEXT- |
