Welcome to the Sutter County Sheriff's Department employment page. Sutter County is
primarily a rural community with close proximity to the Sacramento metropolitan area
just to the south. We have a diverse community ranging from rural agricultural
operations to a modern urban center, Yuba City. This combination of rural and urban
environments creates a unique mix of opportunities and complexities for the
law enforcement community of our county.
Aside from Yuba City which operates its own police department, the Sutter County
Sheriff's Department provides law enforcement services for the remainder of the county,
including rural areas and small towns as well as portions of Yuba City that are under County
influence and the City of Live Oak which contracts policing services with the County.
Sworn peace officers are assigned to positions as patrol deputies, detectives and
command level executives. Correctional officers are assigned to positions providing
jail and bailiff services. Non-sworn personnel are assigned to positions in all divisions
primarily for dispatch, clerical and administrative support functions.
Volunteers also provide significant value to our operations and are integral to the services
we provide to our community. If you are interesting in serving our community as a civilian volunteer
in the Sheriff's Department, there are many exciting and interesting opportunities awaiting you
that include participation in the Aero-Squadron, Mounted Posse and Sheriff Cadets as well as assignments
in public safety programs, sobriety checkpoints, traffic control and various office support duties.
