Sutter County Sheriff Department Jail Division
Reserve Correctional Program
"NOW HIRING"

Reserve Correctional Officers

The Sutter County Sheriff's Department has approximately 15 Reserve Correctional Officer positions within the Jail Division. The Jail Reserves work along side the full time staff during the training period and then are transitioned into fully trained officers. We utilize reserve officers for all facets in the division including, booking, transportation, bailiff, civil and hospital coverage etc.

The Jail Reserves Officers go through a three phase training program by which they are evaluated each day they work. These officers are trained in every assignment in the division including, Single Cell Unit, Minimum Facility, Floor Officer, Dorm Unit, Main Jail Control, Transportation, Bailiff/Courts, Civil Division and Firearms.

The minimum qualifications of a Jail Reserve Officer are that an applicant must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age at appointment, possess a valid California Drivers License and have a High School diploma or G.E.D. In addition, it is recommended an applicant should have completed the 832 P.C. course (Law of Arrest and Search & Seizure) with the Firearms Qualification Class or college units in Police Science, Corrections or a closely related field. This position is paid hourly at $6.50 and is non-benefited. The position is assigned to various shifts where need exists.

The Jail Reserve Officer position is a valuable asset to the division as we depend on theses individuals to supplement the full time staff, assist with extra duties and special details.

Most of the Reserve Officers often hold down full time jobs, and participate in our program part-time for the job skills, training, knowledge and posses a unique interest in this facet of Law Enforcement. When full time positions become available, our Reserve Officers are often first to fill those vacancies.

If you would like more information about our program, please contact Reserve Coordinator Kristina Wicker, Assistant Coordinator's James Middleton or Cameron Barnec at (530) 822-7302. You can pickup an application at either location:
