The Sheriff is mandated by law to provide a safe and secure facility to house persons committed to his custody by the Courts. The Main Jail facility is located at 1077 Civic Center Boulevard, Yuba City. The facility has undergone several upgrades since originally constructed in 1977. A major kitchen renovation, a 148 bed minimum facility, and a 62 bed felony dorm addition were added to the original design. A 52 bed maximum security single-cell unit was completed in 1999. The inmates housed in the single cells are considered high risk inmates. The jail facilities are staffed by over 90 full and part-time employees. The division is headed by a Captain, who oversees the diverse needs of the inmate population. In addition to performing traditional custody functions, the Jail Division is charged with providing security as bailiff’s assigned to the Sutter County Consolidated Courts in both criminal and family law cases. The correctional officers also aid the service provided to the community by becoming members of many of the specialized units of the department such as the dive team, swift water rescue, and honor guard, just to name a few.
