Lieutenant Hutchinson
Lieutenant Bruce A. Hutchinson is a 25 year veteran with the Sutter County Sheriff’s Department.
He started his career in law enforcement as a Reserve Deputy with the Sheriff’s Department in 1984.
After being hired as a full-time deputy in 1985, Bruce worked as a Patrol Deputy in the Live Oak
sub-station for 5 years. He then moved to the main office where he was promoted to Corporal in 1990
and then to Patrol Sergeant in 1997. Bruce spent the next 4 years as a Boat Sergeant and working
with Search and Rescue responsibilities before being assigned as a patrol sergeant in the main office.
In December of 2008, he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant where he was one of two Lieutenants
who assist the Operations Division Commander in the daily oversight of field operations within the main
office Patrol Section. Currently, Bruce is a Lieutenant for the Support Services Section with primary responsibility
for managing background checks, CCW permits and the training unit.
In addition to being the head Range Master and assisting with background investigations of reserve
candidates, Lieutenant Hutchinson also serves as the Reserve Deputy Coordinator, a position he has
held for the past 19 years. Lieutenant Hutchinson is a former Field Training Officer and has also
been involved with the Drug Court and Family Intervention Team.
Lieutenant Hutchinson holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from California State University,
Chico, as well as an Associate of Science degree in Computer Science from Yuba Community College. He
has lived in Yuba City all of his life. He and his wife Lynn, have two daughters (Tiffany and Bethany)
and a son (Zachary).
