Lieutenant Dan Buttler has more than 21 years of law enforcement experience, 18 years with the Sutter County Sheriff’s Office and three years as a Game Warden for the Department of Fish and Game. During Lieutenant Buttler’s time at the Sheriff’s Office he has been assigned to the Narcotic Enforcement Team (Net-5), Investigations Unit (Detectives), Underwater Search and Recovery Team (Dive Team), Special Enforcement Detail (SED/SWAT). In addition, he has served as Field Training Officer, Cadet Coordinator, Background Investigator, Internal Affairs Investigator and Range Master.

In 2011 he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and worked both as a Patrol Sergeant and a Detective Sergeant before being promoted to the rank of Lieutenant. He is currently assigned to the Operations Division where he manages the Field Training Officer (FTO) Program, Dive Team and is the Tactical Commander for the Special Enforcement Detail.

Lieutenant Buttler is currently finishing his Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from California State University, Sacramento; in addition, he has completed the course work for his Associate of Science degree in Administration of Justice from Sacramento Community College.

Lieutenant Buttler enjoys spending time with his wife Lisa and their two children Brycen and Brooklyn.
