Lieutenant James Casner
Born in Grass Valley, California in 1953, Lieutenant James Casner attended high school in Idaho and then
enlisted in the United States Army where he served two tours with the infantry in Vietnam between 1971 and
1975. Since leaving active duty status he has been in the United States Army reserves.
In 1988 Lieutenant Casner joined the Sutter County Sheriff's Department as a deputy sheriff. He worked assignments
in Patrol, Narcotics, Dive Team, Special Enforcement Detail, Boat Patrol and the Swift Water Rescue Team.
He was promoted to Sergeant in 2001 and to Lieutenant in 2006.
He graduated in 1993 from Yuba College with an Associate of Science degree in Business Administration and
in 2001 from the University of Phoenix with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. Currently, he is
working on completing the requirements for his Masters in Business Administration and Human Resources through
Toruo University and he is on the waiting list for the FBI National Academy.
During his law enforcement career Lieutenant Casner has been the recipient of 21 letters of appreciation from
citizens and allied agencies and a total of 9 Sheriff's Commendations for outstanding work. In 2005, Lieutenant
Casner was nominated for Sutter County Sheriff's Department Officer of the Year.
Lieutenant Casner lives in Yuba City and he is the father of three sons and one daughter.
