Investigations Section - Detective Lieutenant Butah Uppal

Detective Lieutenant Uppal Butah S. Uppal is a 25 year veteran of the Sutter County Sheriff’s Department. His Law Enforcement career began in 1979 as a Sutter County Sheriff’s Cadet. He was a Reserve Deputy Sheriff from 1982 to 1983, and in November of 1983 Lt. Uppal was hired as a Correctional Officer in the Corrections Section. In 1985, Lt. Uppal transferred to the Patrol Section where he was assigned until 2000. Lt. Uppal has worked the contract area in Live Oak as a Corporal for three years. He was promoted to Patrol Sergeant in 1999. In 2000 he transferred to the Investigations Section where he worked as the Detective Sergeant until 2007. Lt. Uppal was a Senior Criminal Investigator at the Sutter County District Attorney’s Office from March 2007 to July 2008. In July 2008, he returned to the Sheriff’s Department and was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and assigned to the main office Patrol Section.

Lt. Uppal is a graduate of the 37th Basic Police Academy at Butte College, and possesses an Associate’s Degree from Yuba Community College. He is a 2004 graduate of the Sherman Block Leadership Institute and possesses a Management Certificate from the California State Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.)

Outside of work, Lt. Uppal loves to spend time with his family at home, traveling or camping. He and his wife Genelle have a daughter, Christinah. He and his family are active members of Calvary Christian Center in Yuba City.
