The Communications Manager has responsibility for managing and overseeing the daily operations of the Communications,
Civil and Records Units. Except for the Civil Deputy, each of these units are primarily staffed by civilian, non-sworn
employees. Dispatch and the Communications Center provide essential services for the operation of the Sheriff's Department,
and Civil and Records Units serve both the department and community in providing ancillary services as well as assistance
for civil matters and processes.
Brenda Baker began her employment with Sutter County in 1980 with the Sutter/Yuba Mental Health
Department as a Medical Records Clerk. In 1984, she started with the Sutter County Sheriff's
Department assigned to the Communications Division as a Public Safety Dispatcher. During this
time she served as a Dispatch Trainer and cross trained as a Criminal Records Technician
performing that function in the absence of the Regular Criminal Records Technician. In 1991,
she transferred to the Civil Division as the Accounting Coordinator and was responsible for
the general operation of the civil office. In 1992, Brenda transferred to the
Executive Secretary II position serving as the secretary to the Sheriff/Coroner Public
Administrator. She held that position under the leadership of three current or retired Sheriff's.
In July 2010, Mrs. Baker was promoted to Communications Manager assigned to the Support Services
Division. She has the responsibility for managing and overseeing the daily operations of the
Communications, Civil and Records Units.
Mrs. Baker is also responsible for the daily release of media information to both local and regional
news agencies. She has completed the "Crisis and the Media" course sponsored by the Office
of Emergency Services and held at the California Specialized Training Institute in San Luis Obispo, CA.
Mrs. Baker is a lifelong resident of the Yuba/Sutter area and lives in Yuba City with her husband Dan.
She has two children and eleven grandchildren.
