Undersheriff Jeff Pierce
Undersheriff Jeff Pierce has more than 30 years of law enforcement experience. He began
his career with the Yuba County Sheriff’s Department, followed by time with the Grass
Valley Police Department before coming to work for the Sutter County Sheriff’s Department.
Jeff earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from California State
University at Sacramento. Captain Pierce is also a graduate of the Federal Bureau of
Investigation’s National Academy held at the FBI headquarters in Quantico, Virginia.
In May of 2009, Jeff Pierce was promoted from Captain to Undersheriff. Under the previous
organizational structure, Jeff Pierce has been the Commander in charge of the Detective,
Support Services and the Patrol Divisions. Additionally, Jeff is the liaison officer to
the Yuba-Sutter Aero Squadron. He has served in almost every position within the Patrol
Section, including as a narcotics officer assigned to the Net-5 task force.
At the 1990 Police Olympics, Jeff Pierce earned a silver medal in wrestling and the Michael
Sergie Award during the Grass Valley SWAT Competition. In both 1997 and 2004 he was
chosen as the Sheriff’s Departments Officer of the Year.
Jeff Pierce has two sons and in his spare time volunteers as a youth football coach
for Wheatland. He is also active in the family farming operation.
