Support Services Division Commander

Captain David Samson
Captain David Samson is an 18-year veteran of the Sutter County Sheriff’s Department. He began his career
as a sheriff’s reserve deputy in 1987 and became a full time deputy in 1992. He was assigned to the
Narcotics Enforcement Team (NET-5) task force from January of 1995 to January of 1997. He returned to
patrol and was promoted to Sergeant in late 1997. In January 1999, Samson became the supervisor in charge
of the City of Live Oak contract area where he remained until promotion to Lieutenant in February of 2006.
Samson was promoted to Captain in July of 2006 and is currently the Commander of the Operations Division.
Captain Samson just completed a Bachelors degree program through the California State University of Long Beach.
He is a graduate of the Supervisory Leadership Institute (SLI), he was voted the Officer of the Year in 2003
and is a past vice president of the Sutter Deputy Sheriff’s Association.
Captain Samson was born and raised in the Yuba Sutter area. He is married to his wife Tammy and has two sons
Jacob and Logan. He enjoys hunting, shooting, and traveling with his RV.
