Sheriff J. Paul Parker

Sheriff J. Paul Parker is a 30+ year veteran of Law Enforcement. He started his career
in law enforcement as one of the original Sutter County Sheriff's cadets in 1972. He
then moved on to work as a patrol officer for the Live Oak Police Department in 1976.
Sheriff Parker returned to the Sheriff's Department in 1980 as a patrol deputy and
since that time he continued his career within the department, attaining the rank of
Corporal in 1985, Patrol Sergeant in 1989 and completing several years as a Detective
Sergeant. Sheriff Parker rose to the rank of Captain in 1999, commanding the Jail
Division of the Sheriff's Department and the Patrol Division in January 2003.
In July 2006 he was appointed to the position of Undersheriff by Sheriff Denney.
In April 2008, he was appointed as Sheriff-Coroner of Sutter County after the
retirement of Sheriff Denney.
During his career Sheriff Parker has also held positions on special details while
an officer and deputy, such as cadet coordinator, reserve officer coordinator,
traffic accident reconstruction officer, Field Training Officer, SED (SWAT) Team
leader, certified examiner in computer voice stress analysis and a court
recognized fingerprint expert. He previously was an instructor for Yuba Community
College at both the police and jail academies in courses dealing with jail
security and domestic violence issues.
Sheriff Parker holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Phoenix,
and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy-class 195.
Sheriff Parker is a life long resident of the Yuba/Sutter area and lives in Yuba
City with his wife Kate. Sheriff Parker has two daughters, (Jacqueline and
Samantha) and a son (Jacob).
